Pricing

Here’s some easy pricing on major ingredients/staples so that you can make your own cheap and tasty menus:

All prices include tax and are generally taken from the most common brand except where noted

Apples – .08oz (granny smith, non-organic)

Baking powder – .03 tsp

Balsamic – .65 oz

Butter .10 tbsp (WF brand)

Carrots- .08 an ounce (about 1 carrot)

Celery- .27 ounce

Cream – .14 tablespoon (based on horizon organic)

Cucumber – 1.10 a piece

Eggs – .40 (organic cage free)

Flour – .05 an ounce

Garlic – .05 a clove (unprocessed, approx.)

Honey – .07 tsp

Ketchup – .19 oz (Heinz organic)

Lemon juice 0.28 0z

Milk – .07 an ounce (price based on Dean’s smaller cartons. Can be had cheaper, but expires. Organic is competitively priced, but generally not sold in small containers)

Mustard, yellow – .16 ounce

Mustard, dijon – .21 ounce

Oil, Olive – .58 ounce

Olive, Vegetable – .13 ounce

Onion – .08 ounce

Pepper – .03 – 1/8 teaspoon

Spinach, Baby – .27 ounce

Sugar, white – .05 ounce

Sugar, brown – .09 ounce

Tomato paste – .16 ounce

Tomatoes – .15 ounce (Muir Glen organic)

Tomatoes, Roma, Fresh – .44 a tomato

Tomato Sauce, Concassee – .69 per 1/3 cup serving

Red wine vinegar – .29 oz (this is the pricier kind, but I use it quite often, so I’ll spend on it)

Wine – $0.21 – A word about wine

Worchestire – .38 oz (assuming organic – no HFCS)

Salt and pepper – Salt is very inexpensive. Where it’s used alone, I add a cent. If it’s used with pepper, I add 5 cents. Most of the time this will be accurate to overestimating.
